Why does Pshew need "Always" location?

Automatic recording is the whole app: Pshew has to notice a trip starting while it's in the background. With "While Using" it can only record while open. You can change this anytime in Settings → Pshew → Location.

A trip is missing its beginning

iOS wakes apps a block or two into a trip. Pshew backdates the start using the motion chip's own history — and the record button in the Timeline header starts recording instantly when you want certainty.

Battery?

Pshew leans on the motion coprocessor (which runs anyway) and only runs GPS during trips. Most days cost a few percent.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Pshew backs up to your iCloud Drive automatically after each trip. On the new phone: install Pshew, and tap "Restore your data from iCloud" on the empty timeline (or Settings → Restore from iCloud).
